Sick of being sick

We've been sick so I've had a serious lack of desire to do much of anything let alone blog.  I ended up in the ER last Saturday with a super case of the flu.  That was not awesome.  I was in so much pain they gave me Morphine.  Morphine for the flu, wouldn't have put the two together myself.  Morphine, by the way, is not my favorite thing in the world.  I have no idea why people talk about it like it's some great drug.  It was uncomfortable, then it just made me want to sleep.  It got rid of the pain mind you, but it really didn't last very long either.  All in all, I can do without Morphine.

Now, Jude caught it, despite his flu shot which is no match for a mother's love apparently, but he had one bad day then was pretty much good.  He's a super snot making machine but overall he's been chipper.  We were given a prescription for Tamiflu... which for me, out of pocket cost a whoppin' $115... and Jude's medical didn't cover it for him either.  We had to get special permission and still haven't even gotten the medicine because of the run around with the pharmacy.  Now he's almost all better and we never even gave him a dose of the stuff.

Which what the fuck are they doing charging that much for a ten dose pack of meds?  Our country's health care system is seriously messed up.  If we end up with a Rep. in the White House this coming term I'm scared to think of how much worse it's going to get.  Honestly, it's worth considering moving to another country and applying for residence.  I've never had more fear of where our country is headed than I do now that we have this upswing of severe conservatives coming out of the woodwork and fighting to put things back decades.  Woman's rights, gay rights, minority rights, health care, medicare, SS, just to name a few, all on the chopping block.  If it doesn't fit in with their narrow WASP view of the world it doesn't belong, and they think they have some God given right to rule.  *shudders* that's just asking for more trouble.

Don't count your chickens...

Just sharing my finished chicks!

The first one.

The HUGE one is Aaron's... because guys must always do things big apparently.

All my little chicks in a row (well, not all, but some).

You can even go simple and they still rock!

Cake Pops!

I am super excited about Jude's birthday this year (don't scoff, I don't care if it's still five months away, I'm a planner).  The main reason?  I have learned how to make Cake Pops!  If you have not discovered the wonder of Cake Pops you are denying yourself.  They are not hard to make, although certain aspects of them do take perfecting, and they're not expensive... unless you go crazy with all the different decorations/sprinkles/themes you can do.  The possibilities are SO much fun.  And one "pop" replaces the need for a whole cupcake... trust me... they're rich, you will not need more than one per person.  One cake mix = 40-50 pops (more if you make them on the small side).  Also their size means you don't need a huge table to hold all the goodness.

I made my first batch today.  I chose chocolate cake and chocolate icing... I figured it was safest.  My only regret with that is the darker cake mixed with the lighter coating makes it easier to see imperfections in the coat.  I chose yellow candy coating, because I plan to make chicks for Easter now that I know I can do it.  It followed Miss Bakerella's recipe and magic happened.  I am absolutely in love with Cake Pops now.  Not only does one small pop replace a whole cupcake but the novelty of it all is way too much fun to pass up.  These little treats are the next thing in baking.  I can guarantee you that you'll see them at a min of one party in the next year (assuming you attend parties with wonderus baking confections at them).  I've only seen them on-line or at Starbucks (I was NOT purchasing coffee... because their's is SWILL) and I had this huge apprehension about doing them myself (because I doubt myself far too much, not because I'm ill equipped as a baker) but I dug in and did it.  These are my new party gift, supply, treat, awesome possumness, etc.

Cake Pops.  Google that shit.

And yes, this was my FIRST attempt.  The Virgo in me worked to my advantage in  the near perfection of these confections.  Oh, and I rock, so don't question me.

Best. Day. Ever!

Jude has started two new speech... thingies, I don't know what to call them.  Just things he does now verbally that crack me up.  The first he started a couple of weeks ago.  He had a little scratch on his cheek and I asked him where it came from.  His response?  "Things happen, Momma."  Yes, my son, things do, indeed, happen.  Now he says that any time he doesn't really have an answer, "Things happen."  Out of the mouth of babes my friends.  Things happen.  I think we need that on a shirt for him or something.  A button maybe.

The second is simply adding the word 'ever' after things.  It started with the movie Tangled, at least from what I can tell.  While Rapunzel is having her bi-polar meltdown after leaving her tower, she swings around a tree by her amazingly shiny clean hair screaming "best day ever!" and Jude says that when he's really happy about something (like while jumping around in a bounce house at a party).  That's cute in and of itself, but it's more impressive to me that he grasped the words meaning and can now apply it for emphasis appropriately.  So if I ask him to stop doing something... "Can't stop, ever."  Or if I tell him it's time to get out of the shower... "No out, ever."  And yes, there is sometimes a nice pause before the 'ever' part of it.  Two is a fun age, that's for sure.  Fun and funny.

"No go inside.... ever."

Tropical!

Totally random note.  I'm really looking forward to taking Jude to Hawaii next year.  On his fist visit he wasn't even a year old, so while totally awesome to travel with, he's not likely to recall any of it.  This time he'll be three and a half (almost) so let the fun times ensue!
